But Joseph replied, “Don’t be afraid of me. Am I God, that I can punish you? You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people. No, don’t be afraid. I will continue to take care of you and your children.” So he reassured them by speaking kindly to them. [Genesis 50.19-21]
Once again today (following the articles written the last two days), we see Joseph's focus on the big picture of his life. He did not focus on the fact that he had been abused and mistreated, but that he was positioned to save the lives of many people.
Most of us find ourselves in much the same position as Joseph. In many ways we too have been repeatedly misunderstood and mistreated. But, like Joseph, we have also been called by God to a higher and bigger purpose: to save the lives of many people.
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. [Matthew 28.19]
And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. [Mark 16.15]
It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’ [Luke 24.47]
Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” [John 20.21]
Perhaps the reason offenses seem today to be at all time highs is because people have lost focus of their purpose. Instead of focusing on what God has put them on earth to do (save the lives of many people), they are focused on themselves and the people who have hurt them.
Why are you here?
Father, there is no need for lengthy discussion of this topic... I need to focus on saving the lives of many people instead of focusing on myself (for any reason). May Your Word and Your Holy Spirit reveal the forgiving saving purpose of Jesus Christ in every circumstance and relationship in my life. So be it.
