Watching For Jesus?

“Look, I will come as unexpectedly as a thief! Blessed are all who are watching for me, who keep their clothing ready so they will not have to walk around naked and ashamed.” [Revelation 16.15]

As we draw to the end of the One Year Chronological Bible readings for the year, all should remain mindful of these words of Jesus. Whether we understand all that the Book of Revelation says or not, we can certainly understand that Jesus is coming again, and, that we are well-advised to be ready for His return.

In light of the article Remaining Alive, written yesterday, when Jesus returns, our "living life to the fullest" will not matter one iota. There is only one way to not be surprised when Jesus returns: to be watching for Him. All that will matter at His appearing is whether or not we sought and embraced our cross every day dying to "self" and this world (so that Christ might live in and through us to do the works of God reconciling men unto Him). This is what "watching for Jesus" looks like.

We won't be measured by how well we "lived" for ourselves, but instead how well we "died" for others.

Father, help us to be ready. Keep speaking to us through Your Word. Convict us of our sinful selfish ways. May You find us not seeking to live, but seeking daily to die so that Christ might live through us. So be it.
