What We Do Matters

She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear.” For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God’s holy people. [Revelation 19.8]

Similar to what is implied in the verse above, the following two verses are also included in today's One Year Chronological Bible reading:

The sea gave up its dead, and death and the grave gave up their dead. And all were judged according to their deeds. [Revelation 20.13]

Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds. [Revelation 22.12]

How the Church today arrived at such a sloppy grace is nothing short of amazing. Many are convinced they can "get saved" and pretty much live normal lives like everyone else afterwards and then be welcomed with open arms in heaven when they die. Nothing could be further from the truth.

If we take nothing from this final reading of the year in the OYCB, it should be the importance of what we do as believers - our deeds. There is also specific mention of idolatry and immorality as deal breakers for entrance into heaven.

Blessed are those who wash their robes. They will be permitted to enter through the gates of the city and eat the fruit from the tree of life. Outside the city are the dogs—the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idol worshipers, and all who love to live a lie. [Revelation 22.14-15]

This is serious. This is the Word of God. What we do matters.

Father, as another calendar year draws to its close, may there be increasingly more who seek the truth of Your Word and prove their salvation by their deeds. Thank You for the free gift of salvation, but may You find our genuine gratitude for it manifest in our actions because of it. So be it.

Dear Reader,
I would like to invite you to join me in reading the One Year Chronological Bible in this coming New Year.
While you may or may not find my writing of any value (spiritual or otherwise), you are certainly encouraged to see my commitment as encouragement for you also to write down your own thoughts and takeaways each day. Won't you join me?
The one thing grossly missing from Christianity today is daily Bible reading and, consequently, people are ignorant of what the Bible says and likewise Who God Is. Please don't let this be true in your life!
Read the Bible! Think about what it says. Write down your thoughts! Talk to God and others about it. You will grow spiritually!
