Some Facts To Remember

All right then, the LORD himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’). By the time this child is old enough to choose what is right and reject what is wrong, he will be eating yogurt and honey. For before the child is that old, the lands of the two kings you fear so much will both be deserted. [Isaiah 7.14-16]

Here we have a famous scripture that most people only really recognize because of its repeated partial appearance on Christmas cards.

Here are some facts surrounding this passage that we should retain.

Isaiah delivered this message.

Ahaz was the recipient of this message.

The "yogurt and honey" mentioned has to do with abundance (mentioned as so a few verses later in 7.21-22).

The two kings were the kings of Israel and Syria, Pekah and Rezin respectfully.

Another leader is predicted by Isaiah in what follows the passage above in its context, and that was the king of Assyria (Isaiah 7.18-20).

Father, help me to retain the knowledge of these passages so I might better understand as I read about Jesus and the environment into which He was born.
