Think Of It As Advertisement

Some nations boast of their chariots and horses, but we boast in the name of the LORD our God. Those nations will fall down and collapse, but we will rise up and stand firm. [Psalm 20.7-8]

Any person or nation who trusts in anything or anyone besides God the LORD is destined for failure.

People trust what or whom they practice trusting in.

People praise what or whom they trust in.

Praise is like advertisement, isn't it? We should understand that all the Psalms, like the OYCB presents today, tell of God's greatness and victory. And, that is precisely what advertising does! It proclaims a particular products' superiority to rise above all the rest - to outperform its competition.

Here is something to ponder: For all the advertisements claiming their products will heal, provide financial security, or give internal peace, are they not placing those products above their competitors? Has any advertisement EVER promoted itself "as a supplement to prayer and seeking God" for the desired benefit? And yet, the Church defends those very same products as such and supports their use as "God's way to bring relief." There is a huge disconnect in this!

Does a single drug company glorify God as Healer?

Does a single financial provider glorify God as Provider?

Does it not make sense that, from an advertising stance, our praise of God should claim His superiority over all other 'gods'  - chariots and horses - that promise relief from life's challenges? And, does it not make sense that we should not praise God as Healer while depending upon His competition for that desired result?

To take one drug all the while claiming another drug is making me well is ludicrous. But that is precisely what God's people do when claiming God healed them by using His competitors' products.

Father, help us to understand our hypocrisy and help us make the adjustments necessary to make our praise pure and true.
