“Have the people of Israel build me a holy sanctuary so I can live among them. You must build this Tabernacle and its furnishings exactly according to the pattern I will show you. [Exodus 25.8-9]
This passage stood out to me today particularly as I have been trying to pay attention to "Jesus' in the scriptures (as He pointed out in John's Gospel):
“You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! [John 5.39]
Back in 2018, I wrote a piece about this passage of scripture that needs little modification (as I see it): Does My Life Look Like Jesus?. In that 2018 writing, I recognized that the Tabernacle (later, the Temple) was all about Jesus. In fact, Jesus referred to His body as a tabernacle...
I have been increasingly aware of the Biblical mandate that my life should look like Jesus (and no other, including my own!). If God was so concerned that the Tabernacle of Exodus be built exactly according to His pattern, then, it would be foolish of us to think our lives could look "sort of" like Jesus. There are no less than four reminders in today's OYCB reading alone that Moses was to build the Tabernacle according to the pattern God showed him. Those four reminders also remind us that our lives are to be built upon the pattern of Jesus ...exactly.
Father, thank You for this reminder today that "my" life is a misnomer even in its declaration. May Christ Jesus be found in me in all I do, all I say, and even all I think. So be it.
