Have the people of Israel build me a holy sanctuary so I can live among them. You must build this Tabernacle and its furnishings exactly according to the pattern I will show you. [Exodus 25.8-9]
“All right,” Jesus replied. “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” [John 2.19]
Let's talk about this...
Jesus was referring to His body in the statement from John 2.19. He saw His body as a temple, a tabernacle if you will. His life represented everything the Tabernacle mentioned in Exodus stood for.
God, His Father, had shown Jesus how to live His life. Jesus said so many times. And, we can be sure Jesus lived His life "exactly according to the pattern" God showed Him.
Stay with me...
According to John 20.21, Jesus said, ...“Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.”
If God sent Jesus to live a certain way, and Jesus sent us to live a certain way, then how this is done must be important!
And oh it is important! How do we know? Because by Jesus referring to His body as the temple, He was saying that His life was the exact representation of the pattern God intended. God had made very clear that His Tabernacle (and later, Temple) must be built exactly according to His specifications!
So, we may now assume correctly that Jesus' life in no way varied from God's plan. And, if Jesus was sent for a specific purpose and life, and, He has sent us as He Himself was sent, then, we were sent for a specific purpose and life - to look "exactly according to the pattern" shown to us in Christ!
Does my life look like Jesus?
Father, as exciting as it was to write this post today, it is also very humbling because few would ever discern Jesus by looking at my life... Forgive me for this.
