I ask you again, does God give you the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you because you obey the law? Of course not! It is because you believe the message you heard about Christ. [Galatians 3.5]
Paul's discussion in Galatians is meant to point out the distinction between faith in Jesus and keeping the Law of Moses. Galatians stands today as an authoritative voice for God's grace through faith in Jesus alone.
However, there is something that stood out to me today in a matter-of-fact question made in the verse above, "does God give you the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you because you obey the law?" This question reveals a premise that is understood about faith in Christ versus obeying the law. That understood premise is that faith in Jesus yields the Holy Spirit and miracles.
The context of Paul's letter to the church in Galatia is about faith in Christ versus obedience to the law for salvation. But Paul speaks of the Holy Spirit and miracles as natural evidence of salvation, albeit by faith and not by works of obedience to the law.
Father, help Your Church today to get to the place where Your Holy Spirit and miracles are as naturally spoken of as Paul mentioned to the Galatians.
