Perhaps the people of Judah will repent when they hear again all the terrible things I have planned for them. Then I will be able to forgive their sins and wrongdoings.” [Jeremiah 36.3]
God said, "Then I will be able to forgive,,," When? When they repent.
Christendom makes quite an ado about God's amazing love and forgiveness, but not nearly so much about the necessary repentance that precedes it.
All the while, God has made it clear that repentance is absolutely necessary. Jesus had a bit to say about it:
It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’ [Luke 24.47]
Preaching the Gospel message without preaching repentance is a tease. Satan doesn't care one bit how we feel about Jesus as long as we don't repent, because without repentance, there is no forgiveness.
Father, may we be found repentant always.
