A Lot To Grasp

The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!” [Lamentations 3.22-24]

There are a lot of things that come to my mind (and sadly often to my mouth) in my hardships and trials. But here today, I see some good words that should become so ingrained in me that they flow from my lips effortlessly in every circumstance.

God's character is unchangeable. God's character is defined over and over in His Word.

On the other hand, man's character is changeable. Most often, man's character is subject to his environment or circumstances. What follows the passage above in Lamentations is in-depth insight into the faithless character of man. In verses 37-42 that follow, Jeremiah points out that man is the cause of his own hardships and therefore liable to repent (turn away from his sin) instead of complaining for his condition.

Most people fail to see this however, because pride blinds them from seeing themselves. Far too many folks read passages like Lamentations 3.22-24 and struggle to see the truth of it because they are so proudly consumed with their own presumed innocence.

There is a lot to grasp here!

Father, help us to get in our being that You are perfect and good and that You only do good. Help us to understand that all the bad stuff is our own fault and simply calls us to repentance (whether we understand it or not).
