Jerusalem

Regarding Jerusalem it will be said, “Everyone enjoys the rights of citizenship there.” And the Most High will personally bless this city. When the LORD registers the nations, he will say, “They have all become citizens of Jerusalem.” [Psalm 87.5-6]

This is interesting. And telling...

Jerusalem is God's city and Israel is His people. This consistent message of the Bible reveals God's universal love for mankind and desire to have a people from all nations whom He calls His own. Psalm 87.4 confirms this:

I will count Egypt and Babylon among those who know me—also Philistia and Tyre, and even distant Ethiopia. They have all become citizens of Jerusalem! [Psalm 87.4]

Jerusalem stands as the capital city of a people dedicated to God. Jerusalem represents that people as distinguished from all the other people-centers of the world. Jerusalem represents the government of God's Kingdom.

This line of thinking gives explanation then why elsewhere in the Psalms we are told:

Pray for peace in Jerusalem. May all who love this city prosper. [Psalm 122.6]

Even the apostle Paul was tuned into this:

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. [Ephesians 6.18]

Jerusalem represents the core of Christianity - the central-city of our God.

As one city, Jerusalem depicts the singularity of God's will for good to all who trust Him.

How cool is that?

Father, help us to understand what Jerusalem represents and to constantly pray for its peace!
