Lasting Legacy?

All his life Joash did what was pleasing in the LORD’s sight because Jehoiada the priest instructed him. [2 Kings 12.2]

In fact, according to 2 Chronicles 24, Joash turned away from the LORD after Jehoiada died.

What is the lesson here?

Because history is linear, it is entirely possible that 2 Kings 12.2 could have been written before Joash turned away from God. It is also entirely possible that in the translation of 2 Kings 12.2, there was just enough grammatical variance to make the actual meaning unclear (such as is common throughout the entire Bible). Either way, it doesn't present any type of real problem for anyone except Joash himself!

What really stands out however, is the influence of Jehoiada on Joash's life. However, there are two things to consider about this fact. One, is the good side that Jehoiada gave good advice to Joash as king of Judah. Two, is the bad side that Jehoiada's influence went no further than his presence.

Hmm.

Father, on this Father's Day, help me to understand what influence I have on others and whether or not it is lasting...
