Who Is God To Me?

The LORD said to Gideon, “You have too many warriors with you. If I let all of you fight the Midianites, the Israelites will boast to me that they saved themselves by their own strength. [Judges 7.2]

Why would God say this to Gideon?

We really need to understand the answer to this question!

Would not more warriors be better? Of course it would unless more warriors kept people from seeing the hand of God at work. And, that is precisely how God explained it to Gideon.

Man's accomplishments and abilities are great. However, the inherent danger of man's abilities and accomplishments is that man tends to become confident in himself and consequently less confident in God.

After all, why does man need God if he (man) can do it by himself?

We see this error repeated over and again in society - even in Christian society. As long as everything is moving along without problems, man is disinclined to seek God. But, as soon as problems emerge, man is quick to "pray." I can see how this would really showcase man's pride ...at least until it doesn't, then man cries out to God, Who is faithful to deliver, at which point man then returns to his pride and self-confidence...

See the problem?

If God is our everything, then He is our everything! If God is not our everything, then He is nothing to us at all.

Who is God to me?

Father, I want my life and my testimony to be that I trust in You alone. Even if it defies human reasoning, I want there to be no way man can receive glory, but only You.
