In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes. [Judges 21.25]
Man, you can say that again...
The subject of today's OYCB reading is perhaps one of the most terrible stories of the Bible.
Why the Levite responded the way he did when the homosexuals approached the house where he was staying is beyond comprehension.
However, the verse above (that ends today's OYCB reading) really says it all. The people were doing what they thought was right in their own eyes.
They were probably following their heart...
“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? [Jeremiah 17.9]
The fact is, there are some pretty appalling things going on today. Never in history has there been such propaganda for people to follow their hearts. The prognosis is not good.
It is time for God's people to stop following their hearts and start following the Spirit of the Living God!
Father, help us to discern the fallacies of modern society and culture and instead find our direction in You and Your Word as Your Holy Spirit guides us!
