Unprecedented

On the day the LORD gave the Israelites victory over the Amorites, Joshua prayed to the LORD in front of all the people of Israel. He said, “Let the sun stand still over Gibeon, and the moon over the valley of Aijalon.” So the sun stood still and the moon stayed in place until the nation of Israel had defeated its enemies. Is this event not recorded in The Book of Jashar? The sun stayed in the middle of the sky, and it did not set as on a normal day. There has never been a day like this one before or since, when the LORD answered such a prayer. Surely the LORD fought for Israel that day! [Joshua 10.12-14]

What ever possessed Joshua to pray such a prayer?

I ask myself, "Have I ever just needed more time?" Well, yes. Would I ever think to ask God to effectively pause the day so I could get more done? Well, ...no!

Why not?

We see something outstanding in Joshua in this event. That I know of, we have no record that a miracle such as this had ever taken place. Joshua was evidently confident enough in His relationship with God to ask for something unprecedented.

I think of all the miracles I have asked God for... I think most of them were miracles that the Bible mentions at some point or another... each spectacular in their own right. But to ask from something unprecedented?

Hmm.

Father, I want to simply do Your will. And, whatever need arises in the execution of Your will, may I not resort to history or human reasoning, but only trust You - willing to operate in the supernatural even if in an unprecedented way!
