Four Tassels?

“You must put four tassels on the hem of the cloak with which you cover yourself—on the front, back, and sides. [Deuteronomy 22.12]

Now, here is an interesting command! What might we suppose it means?

As I considered it this morning, the only thing that came to my mind was a compass with four headings (north, south, east and west). I could imagine God might want us always mindful of the earth - in all four directions - every nation, tribe and people - because He loves the world. Our responsibility, since God loves the world, is to love the world in the same way, bringing forgiveness of sins to all who repent (as Jesus said in Luke).

Father, help me to always remain mindful of Your love for all the world and my responsibility likewise!
