You have already insulted me ten times. You should be ashamed of treating me so badly. Even if I have sinned, that is my concern, not yours. [Job 19.3-4]
And we think the world has gone crazy today?
Long before our time, Job resorted to emotionalism and situational ethics! Wow.
The fact is, shaming someone never accomplishes anything of lasting value.
Likewise, one person's sin affects all. Therefore one person's sin is the "business" of all.
Then in Job 21.29 Job makes the following erroneous statement:
But ask those who have been around, and they will tell you the truth. [Job 21.29]
Here Job made a huge mistake in assuming that people's experience validated truth. Nothing however could be further from the truth! Our experience means nothing. God's word is truth whether we ever experience it or not! Our experience of God does not determine His character and nature. God is God and our experience serves only as a personal excuse to justify ourselves!
Of course not! Even if everyone else is a liar, God is true. As the Scriptures say about him, “You will be proved right in what you say, and you will win your case in court.” [Romans 3.4]
And this really defines Job's situation: "emotion and situational ethics."
Father, help me to resist the temptation to judge Your character by my experience of You.
