When Noah woke up from his stupor, he learned what Ham, his youngest son, had done. Then he cursed Canaan, the son of Ham: “May Canaan be cursed! May he be the lowest of servants to his relatives.” [Genesis 9.24-25]
When God told Israel to occupy the Promised Land, the land of Canaan, it was not a new thing. There is a direct correlation between this incident with Ham and Israel's conquest of the Promised Land.
In today's OYCB reading, we have this description of who the descendants of Ham were:
The descendants of Ham were Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan. The descendants of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The descendants of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan. Cush was also the ancestor of Nimrod, who was the first heroic warrior on earth. Since he was the greatest hunter in the world, his name became proverbial. People would say, “This man is like Nimrod, the greatest hunter in the world.” He built his kingdom in the land of Babylonia, with the cities of Babylon, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh. From there he expanded his territory to Assyria, building the cities of Nineveh, Rehoboth-ir, Calah, and Resen (the great city located between Nineveh and Calah). Mizraim was the ancestor of the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites, Pathrusites, Casluhites, and the Caphtorites, from whom the Philistines came. Canaan’s oldest son was Sidon, the ancestor of the Sidonians. Canaan was also the ancestor of the Hittites, Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites, Hivites, Arkites, Sinites, Arvadites, Zemarites, and Hamathites. The Canaanite clans eventually spread out, and the territory of Canaan extended from Sidon in the north to Gerar and Gaza in the south, and east as far as Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, near Lasha. These were the descendants of Ham, identified by clan, language, territory, and national identity. [Genesis 10.6-20]
Without a great deal of research, it is apparent that the majority of Israel's recorded enemies would all be descendants of Ham.
It all started with what appears to be a deviant action on the part of Ham in "seeing" his father Noah's nakedness. Unironically, gross sexual misalignment, as recorded in Bible history, is tied directly to Ham and his descendants (homosexuality and multiple other perversions).
Because of all this, it was no surprise then, based on Noah's "curse" upon Canaan (for Ham's actions), that God gave Canaan to Israel. Likewise, neither was Israel's dominion over Canaan an injustice.
It stands out today as an interesting point that the divide between those who were God's chosen and those who were not hinged ultimately upon Ham's act of sexual misconduct.
It further stands out today that sexual "diversity" has become prevalent the world over. And, it is most interesting that the modern symbol of this "diversity" is one and the same as the symbol God gave that He would never again destroy the earth with a flood (contemporary timewise with the first account of sexual perversion).
Father, help me to be accurate in my understanding of ancient history as told by the Bible. Help me also correlate that history to current times and events.
