Death to Self

And you should imitate me, just as I imitate Christ. [1 Corinthians 11.1]

How many of us can truly make this statement to others around us?

Oh, to imitate Christ! To preach the Good News! To proclaim that captives will be released! To give sight to the blind! To set the oppressed free! To be an instrument of the Lord's favor upon all! To forgive! To love!

There is only one way to live the life of Christ and that is to die to self.

Worth repeating:

There is only one way to live the life of Christ and that is to die to self!

Paul understood this. See what he said to the Church in Galatia:

My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. [Galatians 2.20]

Death to self!

Father, help me to more fully understand "death to self" - but not such much academically as in practice!
