Neither the king nor his attendants showed any signs of fear or repentance at what they heard. [Jeremiah 36.24]
Jehoiakim and his attendants were hearing the words of prophecy given by Jeremiah. Jeremiah warned of sin and the need for repentance.
In fact, much of the Bible does this very thing: it warns of sin and points out the need for repentance.
After His time of temptation by Satan, Jesus' own ministry on earth began like this:
From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” [Matthew 4.17]
Repentance is not an option. There is only one thing that ever says people should not repent: fearless pride.
Father, help us to understand that repentance has always been the only way to return to You.
