“In this way, Aaron will carry the names of the tribes of Israel on the sacred chestpiece over his heart when he goes into the Holy Place. This will be a continual reminder that he represents the people when he comes before the LORD. [Exodus 28.29]
Last year this verse led me to believe that praying over lists of people is indeed a good thing.
The symbolism of the way this detail is portrayed in Exodus 28 is remarkable. What we see here is more than a "list" of names. In fact, the names are engraved on precious stones and they are fastened to the priest (Aaron) in a way to be carried over the his heart.
What we see here is more than simply having a list (like an inventory). That chestpiece containing the twelve stones engraved with the names of Jacob's twelve sons served as a continual reminder of Aaron's sole purpose in coming before God.
If we can see it, those twelve names were the only reason Aaron lived at that time in that place. "Focus" is the word we should be considering right about now...
Father, remind me of my purpose, when I come before Your throne in the priestly role of intercessor, ...that its not about me!
