Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. [Romans 12.2]
There are some action words here worth paying attention to.
First, there is the action of, on purpose, not copying the behavior and customs of this world. Hmm, what does that look like? The reason most of us don't know what that is like is because we have not done it - because if we had done it, we would recognize that our thinking had been changed because God had transformed us into a new person!
But wait! There's more!
Paul said then you will learn to know God's will for you... How many times have we wished to know God's will? Well, there is a way to do that! Stop looking and acting like the world!
Not only can we know God's will, but we will easily know and recognize it because is good and pleasing and perfect.
Check this out: God's will is no mystery. The real mystery is why people won't purposefully stop acting like the world so they might know God's will!
If there is any doubt what not copying the world looks like, all we have to do is simply look at Jesus.
Father, help us to see that You gave us Jesus to show us what not copying the world looks like.
