Idol Worship Provokes God To Anger

“And now the LORD God of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, asks you: Why are you destroying yourselves? For not one of you will survive—not a man, woman, or child among you who has come here from Judah, not even the babies in your arms. Why provoke my anger by burning incense to the idols you have made here in Egypt? You will only destroy yourselves and make yourselves an object of cursing and mockery for all the nations of the earth. Have you forgotten the sins of your ancestors, the sins of the kings and queens of Judah, and the sins you and your wives committed in Judah and Jerusalem? To this very hour you have shown no remorse or reverence. No one has chosen to follow my word and the decrees I gave to you and your ancestors before you. [Jeremiah 44.7-10]

Jeremiah points out that idol worship destroys those involved. Idol worship provokes God to anger.

What is an idol? Anything upon that man trusts in besides God.

Let's see, what do we trust in? Knowledge. Technology. Science. Medicine. Government. Self.

Can we not see that every time we place our trust in these things (ignorance is no excuse) that we provoke God to anger? This problem is only compounded when we separate our "religion" from "reality" making flagrantly defiant statements like, "Believe the science..." Can we not see that Science is not currently helping us but instead providing contradicting solutions at the behest of Government? Both Science and Government are dazed and confused but godless people remain fearfully and adamantly devoted to and dependent upon them both.

No one has chosen to follow my word and the decrees I gave to you and your ancestors before you.

God's Word says God is our Healer and Provided (among many other things). If people truly believed this about God, how might our circumstances be different?

Boom! There it is - that first thought after the question above reveals whether we believe God or not.

God is 'provoked' by our idolatry. When will we ever see it and repent?

Father, I acknowledge my idolatry - taking the word of Science or Technology or Medicine or Knowledge or Government or my own self over Your Word. And I further acknowledge that I do it so mindlessly and habitually. FORGIVE ME! I want my devotion and faith in You to be revealed in my every word and action - IN SPITE OF ALL THESE IDOLS!
