“LORD, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he rescued them from their distress. [Psalm 107.6 (also 13,19 & 28)]
What is the solution to all our problems?
Better yet, what is the absolute best thing we can say in whatever trouble we find ourselves?
“LORD, help!”
Psalm 107 provides some insight into life as we know it and gives us clear instruction how to navigate it. Psalm 107 makes it clear that in all our troubles, help is only a cry away...
“LORD, help!”
God is pretty much saying in Psalm 107 that no matter what difficult circumstance in which we find ourselves, the way out of that circumstance is one and the same:
“LORD, help!”
We must examine ourselves at this point however. What does it mean to say, "LORD, help?" The first thing that comes to mind is that I cannot help myself. Right along with that, it seems obvious that the Psalmist is indicating that the LORD, and only the LORD, singularly holds our help.
My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! [Psalm 121.2]
What stops us from crying out to the LORD in our troubles? Nothing but our own unrepentant pride and arrogance. Oh yeah, and our belief that medicine, money, insurance, technology, and the likes are there for us...
Father, I am ashamed of my dependence upon so many things besides You. LORD, help. Forgive me for allowing my faith to be diluted and ultimately weakened to the point of non-existence by seeing other things (instead of You) as my help.
