“Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!” [2 Kings 6.16]
What do your spiritual eyes see? The circumstances?
Yeah, well, circumstances lie. Certainly this was the case with Elisha's servant. He was looking only at the circumstances, and those circumstances were overwhelmingly gloomy.
I am reminded today that we are simply to do what we are to do. Circumstances are just that, circumstances. They appeal to our reason. As we see in this story, Elisha's servant's reason had him blinded.
Jesus taught us to do the work of ministry without regard for circumstances. In fact, Jesus demonstrated that the obstacles presented by circumstances only provided opportunities for the glory of God to be revealed.
What we need is to "see" with spiritual eyes:
Then Elisha prayed, “O LORD, open his eyes and let him see!” The LORD opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire. [2 Kings 6.17]
And, how does this happen? Through prayer, "Then Elisha prayed..."
As pressing as the circumstances may have seemed, Elisha prayed.
Father, help me to pray. Forgive me for seeing the circumstances surrounding my life through my own reason and not in light of Your call.
