Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the entire community of Israel. He lifted his hands toward heaven, and he prayed, “O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like you in all of heaven above or on the earth below. You keep your covenant and show unfailing love to all who walk before you in wholehearted devotion. [1 Kings 8.22-23]
Let's look a little at God and man in this passage of scripture.
Solomon declared that there is no equal to God.
Solomon declared that God keeps His Word.
Solomon declared that God shows unfailing love.
However, the last two definitions of God come with a condition - a condition that describes man: "to all who walk before you in wholehearted devotion."
Fast forward to New Testament times... to today.
Question: Does the atonement provided by Jesus Christ exempt man from the condition "to all who walk before you in wholehearted devotion."?
Here's another question: Can 'believers in Jesus' live any other way except in wholehearted devotion?
We all sin, right? Where is the 'fine line' between that sin being because of fallen nature or rebellion?
You see, a "wholehearted" devotee can make a mistake - that is fallen nature. But, a "wholehearted" devotee cannot make a mistake on purpose - that is rebellion.
Just something to think about, right?
Father, help us to consider our motives in everything we do.
