Anointing On Me

And the king gave this command to Joab, Abishai, and Ittai: “For my sake, deal gently with young Absalom.” And all the troops heard the king give this order to his commanders. [2 Samuel 18.5]

Based on everything I have discussed intermittently over the last few days, there is a matter of the "anointing" I wish to address again today.

David was anointed by Samuel to be king of Israel in Saul's place. We have already established that in the last few days. David still recognized the anointing upon Saul.

Here's the catch though, Absalom was David's son. Absalom was the son of the anointed one and, as such carried the "anointing" just through association!. See where the problem starts to develop? The anointed one's son was trying to kill him.

What were Joab and the others to do?

Although I do not have any analogies from this story, it is clear that the anointing means something. It meant something then, and it means something now.

Jesus said this:

Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” [John 20.21]

So, Jesus sent us in the same manner in which He was sent... And how was He sent?

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.” [Luke 4.18-19]

Notice the "anointing"?

We need to at least think about this!

Father, help me to be conscious that Your anointing is upon me!
