Pride Has To Go

Then I heard another voice calling from heaven, "Come away from her, my people. Do not take part in her sins, or you will be punished with her. [Revelation 18.4]

Regardless what Babylon is in Revelation, whether a literal city or otherwise, the sin of this 'city' is clear: pride.

It is clear from all of Revelation 18 that Babylon was all about wealth and luxury. And, along with all that wealth and luxury, it is not surprising to find great immorality. According to the Apostle Paul in Romans 1 such immorality has its roots in one great sin:

Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done. Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They invent new ways of sinning, and they disobey their parents. They refuse to understand, break their promises, are heartless, and have no mercy. They know God’s justice requires that those who do these things deserve to die, yet they do them anyway. Worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too. [Romans 1.28-32]

Pride leads people to think it is foolish to acknowledge God. In fact, pride prevents repentance. Unrepentance prevents forgiveness from God. Unforgiveness from God prevents salvation and every good and perfect gift from God.

Human pride has to go. Pride is sin and the mother of all sins. Pride is at the root of every imaginable sin as it was with Satan himself.

We must seek out pride in our lives and get away from it. We must do whatever is necessary in our lives to be absolutely sure that pride is starved to death.

Yes, pride has to go.

Father, help me today to seek out and repent of any and all pride in my life. I want to glorify You and You alone.
