Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him. For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself. She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear.” For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God’s holy people. [Revelation 19.7-8]
There are a couple things I want to make note of on this last day of the year 2020.
First, the bride is said to have prepared herself. What does that mean? It would appear from the context that her preparation is her good deeds.
Second, the bride's good deeds are described as pure white linen clothing. What is interesting about this is that that pure white linen (her good deeds) was given to her to wear.
What?
Yes, this explains why in every circumstance we are to give thanks!
And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. [Ephesians 5.20]
Every circumstance we are given is an opportunity to do good deeds! And, our good deeds then are the linen clothing we are given for the wedding feast of the Lamb.
Perhaps this is why so many who have suffered persecution over the years are found grateful even in their troubles: they are looking for the opportunity in every bad circumstance to think not of themselves, but to gratefully do good deeds for others.
In every bad circumstance, look for the opportunity to gratefully respond with good deeds.
Now, that will end the year 2020 on a high note.
Father, help me to understand that importance of interpreting every circumstance in my life as an opportunity for good deeds.
