All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. [2 Timothy 3.16-17]
I had thought about editing yesterday's post, "Knowledge Is Foolishness", but decided today that any further explanation is found here in 2 Timothy 3.16-17.
That further explanation is that there IS actually knowledge that is not foolishness. It is the knowledge that builds faith. It is the knowledge of God's Word.
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. [Romans 101.7 NKJV]
What I am stating here, to be clear, is that God's Word is knowledge. It is to be differentiated from all other knowledge in the fact that it is the only knowledge with the capacity to build faith.
To delve further into clarity, it is essential that we understand that knowledge of God's Word, without humility and submission to God, may be more dangerous than all other knowledge. This is repeatedly revealed in the Gospels in the lives of the spiritual elite - the Pharisees, Sadducees, and scribes. In fact, those responsible for crucifying Jesus probably knew more about the Scriptures than anyone else.
So, here is the bottom line: Knowledge, for the sake of knowledge, is indeed foolishness.
Knowledge, with the Kingdom of God as first priority (meaning that God's Word is prioritized over all other knowledge and reason), builds faith. And, it is faith that pleases God.
Father, help us to consider our knowledge. Help us to be aware of the danger of knowledge of Your Word without submission to You.
