Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. [Colossians 1.15a]
This is a remarkable little sentence. We simply must make ourselves comprehend what it says and means.
Jesus told Philip in the Gospel of John:
Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you? [John 14.9]
In continuation of yesterday's post, Imitate God, let's consider again what Jesus went on to say to Philip in the context of the statement above:
Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me. Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do. “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. [John 14.10-12]
Yes, we are to imitate God, but just to be absolutely sure we understand what He is like, God sent His Son Jesus to give us a clear example to follow.
Father, You are so faithful to us to provide all the information and instruction we need to please You.
