“Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and glorify and honor the King of heaven. All his acts are just and true, and he is able to humble the proud.” [Daniel 4.37]
This says a man who ate grass like a cow!
As much as I hate to say it, sometimes, we have to experience some pretty degrading things to understand our place.
The problem lies in the arrogance attached to power. Nebuchadnezzar got the "big head" when he looked at all he had done in building Babylon and it got him in trouble.
The beauty of Nebuchadnezzar's story though is that he recognized the error of his ways and was restored to his former position of power. And, once reinstated as ruler of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar acknowledged Almighty God.
It is worth pointing out here that Nebuchadnezzar had, what appears to be, a pretty good relationship with Daniel. How much that relationship influenced Nebuchadnezzar's acknowledgement of God is not clear, but certainly deserves consideration. A friend in need is a friend indeed.
We all should have such a friend as Daniel. He humbly declared the truth to Nebuchadnezzar and was apparently there for him when he regained his sanity.
Father, help me to surround myself with friends who will faithfully tell me the truth and, help me to be such a dedicated friend.
