Does not the Most High send both calamity and good? Then why should we, mere humans, complain when we are punished for our sins? Instead, let us test and examine our ways. Let us turn back to the LORD. Let us lift our hearts and hands to God in heaven and say, “We have sinned and rebelled, and you have not forgiven us. [Lamentations 3.38-42]
Calamity is punishment for sin. Our only response to God should be, "We have sinned and rebelled, and you have not forgiven us." The calamity is proof God has not forgiven us and, therefore, we need to repent so we may be forgiven and the calamity removed.
Father, it doesn't have to be as complicated as religion makes it. Forgive us for denying the obvious implications of calamities in our lives. Forgive us for being stiff-necked and hard-hearted: for being purposefully ignorant of Your Holy Word.
