“And Solomon, my son, learn to know the God of your ancestors intimately. Worship and serve him with your whole heart and a willing mind. For the LORD sees every heart and knows every plan and thought. If you seek him, you will find him. But if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. [1 Chronicles 28.9]
"Learn to know the God of your ancestors intimately..." Now, there's a suggestion!
I am going to go out on a limb here... If all Christians made 1 Chronicles 28.9 a priority, there would be no denominations. There would be no need for denominations. There would only be God's Church, all working together, some inclined one way and some inclined another on what different parts of the Bible means. But ALL would be in perfect harmony and unity as maturity in knowing the Father makes it manifest.
The thing is, if we are all seeking the same God, we will find ourselves progressively coming closer together as we come closer to God.
So, let's 'reverse-engineer' this: If then, we are not finding ourselves growing closer together with other believers in our pursuit of God, then we are not pursuing the same God!
Who 'makes the call' then as to who is right and who is wrong? That is where humility comes in. And that is where unity is born.
We are compelled to help each other. We are compelled to be patient with one another. We are compelled to be one with each other as the Body of Christ!
Thank God the Body is not all a finger or an eye! Yes, there is diversity in function in the Body, but unity in accomplishment. Our goal is be the spotless bride of Christ - one Body, working together perfectly to look and act in accordance with our Head, Jesus.
It all starts with learning to know God intimately.
Father, I want to know You more.
