Godly people find life; evil people find death. [Proverbs 11.19]
Well, there you have it plain as day in plain English.
Deuteronomy 28 clearly describes the blessings prescribed upon the obedient in contrast to the curses prescribed upon the disobedient.
In fact, all through the Bible the point is made over and again that blessings are for the godly and curses are for the ungodly.
If only we would just get this deep into our spirits! God is good and only does good!
You are good and do only good; teach me your decrees. [Psalm 119.68]
For the LORD God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. [Psalm 84.11] (underline mine)
It comes down to this: Do we believe the Bible or not?
If, in fact we DO believe the Bible and we still have curses upon our lives, then there is but one solution: repentance
Regardless what we "think" the presence of curses is resultant only to sin. Period.
Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse will not land on its intended victim. [Proverbs 26.2]
Unfortunately, many will blatantly deny what the Bible says and declare their own innocence. Even when laden with obvious curses upon their lives, people would rather twist the Bible to mean something totally our of character with God than to simply confess the wickedness that brought on the curses.
The real problem is that the human 'heart' is deceitful. It is downright wicked. Desperate. NO MAN CAN KNOW HIS OWN HEART!
“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? [Jeremiah 17.9]
So, if man is incapable of knowing his own heart, how could he ever refute the obvious sin that the presence of curses announces? He cannot. But, will he proudly deny sin anyway? Sadly, most do. Instead, those in many Christian circles believe outright slanderous doctrines of hell that teach that God randomly inflicts people with curses as some undefinable act of love. REALLY? Curses are the result of sin and only sin!
The story of Job in the Bible is no example otherwise. Only the misinformed believe Job's story to be one depicting some sort of random sovereignty of God! THINK! In the end of Job's story, what did Job have to do? HE HAD TO REPENT! And, why would Job need to repent? There is only one thing that requires repentance: SIN! Job confessed he had sinned in running his mouth about stuff he knew nothing about! Job had been "following his [deceitful] heart" when instead he should have been trusting the obvious signs of sin (curses) and simply began repenting.
Bottom line:
Godly people find life; evil people find death. [Proverbs 11.19]
Father, Your Word is so clear. Even knowing that pride is at the root of our refusal to confess our wicked and deceitful heart condition, we still would rather declare our innocence. Father, forgive me for so much pride and arrogance... forgive me for thinking "I'm okay" when my circumstances say I am not!
