You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God. [James 4.4]
"Dear James, could you be a little more clear?"
There is no need for more clarity to what James has said here! A friend of the world and all its ways is no friend of God. A friend of the world and all its ways makes himself an enemy of God!
It all sounds so harsh! Surely the Bible doesn't teach us to live at odds with our world, right?
Well, let's see what our world promotes... How do we see the world?
Our world promotes godlessness (and that's a bad start).
Our world promotes evolution instead of Divine Creation.
Our world promotes inclusion, diversity, and tolerance.
Our world promotes unholy and unnatural sex.
Our world promotes individualism and uniqueness.
Our world promotes extermination of human babies.
If our world promotes these glaringly wicked ideas, why would we ever trust anything else the world throws our way? Would we not be safer to just look to God for everything? This is especially true if 'looking to the world' for anything makes us God's enemy!
It is time that God's true followers look at the world for what it is - nothing we need to be. Our only connection to the world should be our efforts to save it (just like Jesus).
Father, help me to see the world with Your eyes.
