Then Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God. I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours. But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.” [Mark 11.22-25]
There are a lot of 'buts' we need out of the Church and our personal walk with God, however, there is one 'but' that must remain:
But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too. [Mark 11.25]I recently had someone suggest I was too focused on one word: forgiveness. Anyone following my daily writings can attest that the word has indeed surfaced over the last few days.
Here is my conviction: How does one ignore "forgiveness" when it is so closely attached to faith (as seen in Mark 11)? How does one ignore the seriousness of forgiveness as described in Matthew 6.15?
But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. [Matthew 6.15]How does one struggling in faith and unanswered prayers not at least consider forgiveness as the remedy?
We don't need more faith teaching. We need more forgiveness teaching!
Father, it is obvious in my powerless life that I need forgiveness. I am paying attention today Lord, and I understand that there is no forgiveness if I do not forgive - and no amount of 'faith teaching' can or will change that.
