Then he said to me, “The sins of the people of Israel and Judah are very, very great. The entire land is full of murder; the city is filled with injustice. They are saying, ‘The LORD doesn’t see it! The LORD has abandoned the land!’ So I will not spare them or have any pity on them. I will fully repay them for all they have done.” [Ezekiel 9.9-10]
It occurred to me today that what the passage above is saying is what unrepentant people have said forever when disasters strike. Instead of repenting when hardships come, they complain that God has abandoned or betrayed them.
What a show of pride and blind arrogance!
I know people right now (including myself) who complain that they do not know why "God is letting them go through such hardships..." It is conveyed to implicate somehow that God is doing an injustice... It is obvious there is no association at all between their hardship and sin (requiring repentance). Instead, there is arrogant complaining as if God is not being fair!
How might our circumstances change if we would just repent?
Father, please forgive me for all the times I have felt and acted as if You have done me injustice when I suffer. Forgive me my arrogance and pride in this! I want to learn to repent!
