The LORD of Heaven’s Armies has taken this vow and has sworn to it by his own name: “Your cities will be filled with enemies, like fields swarming with locusts, and they will shout in triumph over you.” [Jeremiah 51.14]
Not good new for Babylon!
What was so bad about Babylon?
Weren't they used by God to punish Israel? Yes. But...
Babylon took their position too far regarding Israel. Instead of just taking Israel captive, the Babylonians were cruel and wicked and heartless. They got into their job way too much. And, they were idolatrous and perverse - not to mention that they were totally absorbed by worldly gain. They became extremely proud in their wealth and power.
Just like everyone else, Babylon could have worshiped God as the only true God, but they did not. It seems Babylon even knew they were God's instrument of punishment to Israel, but they disrespected their role and God Who put them in it.
The rest of Babylon's story is history.
Father, help me to see that pride and arrogance get a person or a nation nowhere.
