What Is Heaven Like?

A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked. For the LORD God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The LORD will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. O LORD of Heaven’s Armies, what joy for those who trust in you. [Psalm 84.10-12]

It would seem that this Psalm gives us a little glimpse into heaven.

What is heaven like?

A single day there is better than a thousand anywhere else! Imagine the best circumstance on earth. It would be better to be a servant merely keeping watch at a gate in heaven.

Why is heaven so good?

Because God is there and He is the Light and Keeper of Heaven. There He gives unmerited favor and shares His glory. There He withholds no good thing from the obedient.

Repentance is a change of mind. Obedience is doing God's will instead of our own - it requires a change of mind. Repentance is not possible without obedience and obedience is not possible without repentance.

How do we enjoy Heaven for ourselves?

Repent/Obey God. Trust God.

Look at Jesus. Believe in Jesus. Repent of your own ways/obey God instead by taking up your own cross and following Jesus - in selfless pursuit of good/heaven for others.

None of this is possible outside the realm of repentance/obedience.

Father, thank You for this glimpse into heaven where You dwell. Thank You that I can trust that all is good in heaven and heaven is all good because You are there.
