Lord, your discipline is good, for it leads to life and health. You restore my health and allow me to live! Yes, this anguish was good for me, for you have rescued me from death and forgiven all my sins. [Isaiah 38.16-17]
What is the purpose of discipline and anguish?
If we look at the verse above, we can conclude that suffering and anguish serve to bring us to repentance and forgiveness.
However, it does not stop at repentance and forgiveness! Our suffering and anguish (discipline) lead us to repentance - and repentance brings forgiveness that yields restoration of life and health!
That is God's plan - He set it up that way. Not my rules, but His.
Father, I am grateful that You are gracious and forgiving. I am thankful that there is hope in suffering and anguish! I am thankful that You always lead us to repentance that we might be restored to life and health.
