How Impure Is The Church Today?

Hezekiah trusted in the LORD, the God of Israel. There was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, either before or after his time. [2 Kings 18.5]

There is no greater compliment that might be bestowed upon an individual than the statement made in the verse above.

Oh, that it might be said of me, "he trusted in the LORD, the God if Israel!"

Here is an account of something that unfortunately represents so much of what we do today:

King Ahaz then went to Damascus to meet with King Tiglath-pileser of Assyria. While he was there, he took special note of the altar. Then he sent a model of the altar to Uriah the priest, along with its design in full detail. [2 Kings 16.10]

Ahaz, not only embraced (lusted after) the false gods of Assyria, but implemented the worship of them into Israel's system of worship! The verses that follow 2 Kings 16.10 describe how Temple worship of Yahweh (The LORD God) was altered to include the worship of the false gods of Assyria.

You see, Ahaz still utilized some of Israel's articles of worship in the worship of false gods and  even commissioned Uriah the priest (of God) to implement it.

Has the modern Church done the same thing? How much does our worship of God look like the world's worship of various things? How many 'articles of the world' have been brought into the Church's culture and worship? How impure is the Church today?

I think this is serious enough that the Bible addresses it. God wants nothing to do with the world and its gods! Likewise he wants us to share his disdain for the things of the world!

Father, help me to rid myself of anything that is of the world that has infiltrated my worship of You.
