Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples. Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm. The disciples were amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked. “Even the winds and waves obey him!” [Matthew 8.23-27]
Perhaps this is the best display of how God wants us to live life.
We know from Jesus' ministry that our focus is to be on others. There simply is no reason for us to be concerned about ourselves because Jesus said our lives would be taken care of.
Jesus' example to us in this story is sleeping! He was asleep when everyone else was fretting for their own safety.
Maybe sometimes, Christians need to crawl up in a bed or comfortable place and just go to sleep! Maybe the best time to do this is when a storm of life is approaching!
Ridiculous? Maybe. But is it like Jesus? Absolutely!
Jesus' lesson to us in the storms of life is to go take a nap.
It is not ironic that the apostle Paul taught about entering into God's rest.
Father, help me to have the faith in You to take a nap when I face storms in life.
