Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity. Anyone who wants to serve me must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me. [John 12.25-26]
Is it just me this time through the OYCB, or does Jesus really say this a lot in His time and ministry on earth? I think the latter.
Although everything in our culture teaches us otherwise, Jesus taught us that loving this life in this world is futile and eternally damnable.
Everything we are indoctrinated with today is about self and self-preservation. We are taught to love and embrace this life - to be all we can be. But, is that what Jesus taught?
At some point, if we are to be of any use to God's Kingdom, we must let go of the claim we have upon our own lives and let God do what He wants done. And, it is no mystery either (as many would think). Jesus was nothing if he was not clear about our ministry on earth! It all starts with putting "self" at the back of the line.
Father, I want to be used by You, but I realize that as long as I am focused on myself, that will NEVER happen. Forgive me for selfishness!
