For it is my Father’s will that all who see his Son and believe in him should have eternal life. I will raise them up at the last day.” [John 6.40]
God's will. Now there is a topic of interest!
Jesus was very plain in His description of God's will. It was found in the preceding verse:
And this is the will of God, that I should not lose even one of all those he has given me, but that I should raise them up at the last day. [John 6.39]
It is God's will that the world is saved:
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. [John 3.16]
God gave Jesus so that any and all in the world to whom He is revealed, and who subsequently believe in Him, will be saved.
There are two key factors here though. 1. A person must experience Jesus. 2. A person must believe Jesus.
The problem Jesus was addressing in the context of the opening passage above however was that people were seeking miracles instead of the the Miracle Worker. They wanted to eat in a carnal way rather than being fed in a spiritual way. They were in the very presence of Jesus, but refused to "see" Him. They ate the bread He provided through miracles, but refused the Bread He offered in His body.
Was it that they couldn't see Him, or wouldn't see Him? I think that is an answer I will leave to the scholars. All I know is that I have "seen" Him and have chosen with all that is in me to believe Him. It is requiring my lifetime to do so. It is requiring my life.
Will all be saved? The Bible seems to indicate not. But we can be sure of this: those who see Jesus and believe will be saved. It is the responsibility of the saved to reveal Jesus to all. It is the responsibility of those who see Jesus to believe.
I don't really understand why there is all the fuss about "predestination." Our responsibility is not to figure that out - our responsibility is to reveal Jesus to the world!
God help us to see Jesus and believe!
Father, I want to see Jesus and believe. I want to show Jesus so that others might believe!
