So you cannot become my disciple without giving up everything you own. [Luke 14.33]
The thing is, any person who takes this seriously is usually ostracized by their church, family, and friends. Why is that?
And, why is it that we hang on all Jesus' talk about faith and 'moving mountains', but seldom want to talk about giving up everything for the Kingdom?
The answer is obvious, however, we go to great measures to make it vague... don't we?
We are materialistic. We love our stuff.
So much do we love our stuff that we explain away the teachings of the very Messiah Himself in order to preserve our materialism and lack of faith.
I am ashamed that I am no more convicted about this than I am.
Father, I am consumed with myself and my stuff. I confess it. I need Your help to overcome this sin. Please help me because I know it is a faith failure in my life at its core.
