The Correlation Between God's Word and Food

So the people went away to eat and drink at a festive meal, to share gifts of food, and to celebrate with great joy because they had heard God’s words and understood them. [Nehemiah 8.12]

I find this passage of scripture comforting ...and interesting.

Fellowship with God's Spirit involves His Word.

Fellowship with people involves food.

Is it any wonder that God's Word and food both foster fellowship?

Can we safely say then that we cannot effectively fellowship with God apart from His Word?

Can we then also safely say then that we cannot effectively fellowship with people apart from food?

I am trying to get my head around this, but it is a bit overwhelming... the correlation of God's Word and food is amazing!

Jesus said a man should not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.

Jesus also said the greatest commandment is this: to love the LORD our God will all our heart (fellowship with the Word), and, that the second greatest commandment is like it - to love our neighbor as our self (fellowship with food).

Our love for God will have us in His Word.

Our love for man will have us sharing dinner with them.

It seems to make sense!

Father, thank You for speaking to me through Your Word today. I have felt for some time that fellowshipping with people should involve food and now I see how it correlates with fellowshipping with You in Your Word!
