On that day the sources of light will no longer shine, yet there will be continuous day! Only the LORD knows how this could happen. There will be no normal day and night, for at evening time it will still be light. [Zechariah 14.6-7]
In Zechariah's prophecy, this little note is present. The sun and moon will be gone but there will still be light! This is remarkable, but, not unheard of! In Genesis we see that God created light before He created the sun and moon and stars. Light was created on Day 1 and the sun and moon on Day 4.
I think it is cool how Zechariah said, "Only the LORD knows how this could happen." For a fact, science has no explanation for it!
Up until today, I have had some personal difficulties with Genesis 1 particularly on this issue of light being created before the sun and moon. But today, for the first time in my life, Zechariah 14.6-7 has caught my attention!
With this said, true believers should not fear the passing of the sun or moon. I know from my early years when science classes first discussed the possibility of the sun burning out, I was afraid. Wow, I see that that fear was unfounded because God is my Light! He is Light. He does not need the sun and moon for light to exist!
I must admit that I struggled to even stay awake through most of my OYCB reading today. But then I came to this passage and God spoke to me.
Father, forgive me for my sleepiness today. However, thank You for speaking to me through the passage noted here. I know that You are Light and yet, for so many years, I struggled with Genesis 1 because I was fixated that light only came from the sun. Thank You for teaching me today!
