A Call To Mourning

When this vision came to me, I, Daniel, had been in mourning for three whole weeks. [Daniel 10.2]

I must say, few of us have ever mourned over anything much more than three days - let alone three weeks.

Why was Daniel mourning? Perhaps it was because God had called him into a time of mourning. And what did he do in mourning? He prayed. He fasted rich foods. He ate no meat. He drank no wine. He used no fragrant lotions. He humbled himself. He waited.

Was Daniel mourning so he would have a vision? We don't know. But we do know that because of his commitment to mourning, he was given a vision and a visit by an angel. Perhaps it just started with a heaviness of Daniel's heart - but it ended with what has become known as some of the most profound end-times scripture in the Bible.

What would God do if we genuinely humbled ourselves and prayed?

Father, I want to respond when You call me to "mourning."
