What Repentance Is

I turned away from God, but then I was sorry. I kicked myself for my stupidity! I was thoroughly ashamed of all I did in my younger days.’ [Jeremiah 31.19]

Here is a genuine testimony of repentance. It includes the emotions of sorrow and thorough shame.

The message of repentance today is so foreign to us because we have so watered down its message that no longer are sorrow and thorough shame included in it. In fact, it can not be genuine repentance without sorrow and thorough shame.

So, whatever it is that we do today, that does not include sorrow and thorough shame for our sin, is not repentance. And, if there is no repentance, there is no forgiveness. Forgiveness is only available to those who believe and believing is no use outside of repentance.

Father, help me to fully grasp what is written here today. I know You will not turn away a broken and contrite spirit.
